We have already marked the top 10 beaches on the map to give you an initial overview. Here you can find useful information about the individual beaches in the Balkan country, as we work our way from the north to the south and pass the ten most beautiful beaches in Albania on our trip!

The seaside resorts and their dream beaches, which we are about to introduce to you in more detail, are located on the Ionian Sea or on the Adriatic coast and promise perfect conditions for swimming, sunbathing and relaxing. So if you want to soak up the sun while visiting the country’s impressive sights – such as Vlora, Himara, the UNESCO World Heritage city of Gjirokaster or the ruined city of Butrint – these beaches are just the place for you.

Albania has mostly white pebble beaches, which is why you should definitely pack bathing shoes in your suitcase before travelling. And although sandy beaches are a rarity in Albania, we have of course also found some real gems of sand for you, where you can build metre-high castles and walk barefoot through the water.

The high season for a holiday in Albania is July and August. However, we recommend that you switch to the low season. Not only will you save money on your accommodation, but you’ll also avoid the biggest crowds on the beaches. The best weather for swimming in Albania is in the summer months from June to September!

A little further south is the small village of Dhermi, where you will find one of the longest and naturally most beautiful beaches in Albania. The pebble beach boasts crystal-clear water and is family-friendly. On the promenade you will find many small cafés and bars where you can grab a bite to eat in between. Dhermi Beach is also perfect for snorkelling! Please note that there can be an increased number of visitors, especially in the high season.

The northernmost beach in the Balkan state of Albania that we present to you is the popular Durres Beach in the harbour town of the same name. The beach in the country’s second-largest city is almost never crowded due to its considerable size and is perfect for switching off from the hustle and bustle of the big city. Find a tranquil spot to linger and look forward to relaxing hours on the outskirts of the metropolis. If you are travelling by car, there are parking spaces available directly on the beach.

If you don’t fancy the hustle and bustle and many visitors at Livadhi Beach, you should head a little further south of Himara to Potami Beach. This idyllic beach is still a real insider tip – you won’t find any restaurants or cafés, but idyll and tranquillity are the hallmarks here! Just remember to stock up on enough food beforehand and look forward to a relaxing day on the beach far away from the crowds.

Also close to Himare is the white pebble beach Livadhi Beach with crystal-clear, turquoise-coloured water. Sanitary facilities are available, as well as various restaurants and bars for refreshments in between. If the number of visitors is too high for you personally, you should go to the back of the beach – there you will find a quiet place where you can relax completely.

Further south, still close to Himara, Jala Beach awaits you with its gently sloping, crystal-clear water. The infrastructure in the region has been increasingly developed in recent years, so you can look forward to small bars and restaurants, as well as many leisure activities in the water and on land. Try scuba diving or jet skiing, for example, and reward yourself with a cool drink in one of the cosy beach bars with excellent sea views.

Let’s continue with the longest beach on the Albanian Riviera, Borsh Beach. The beach is seven kilometres long and promises pure peace and relaxation. Here, too, the infrastructure is not particularly well-developed, and you should remember to bring enough food, but the idyllic landscape with the olive groves in the background leaves nothing to be desired for beach holidaymakers seeking peace and quiet!

On our trip to the ten most beautiful beaches in Albania, we arrived in Ksamil in the very south of the country. The beach of the same name is considered by many to be the most beautiful in the country. You can expect a mixture of pebbles and sand combined with turquoise-blue water and a breathtaking view. Find a quiet bay on the unspoilt beach, stock up on provisions on site and enjoy some relaxing hours. Active holidaymakers can look forward to various water activities such as pedal boating.

In addition to the popular beaches that we have just presented to you, there are of course many more beaches along the 362 kilometres of coastline that unfortunately did not make it into our top 10.

Nevertheless, we would still like to give you a few beach recommendations in Albania that are definitely worth a detour if you happen to be in the neighbourhood:

  • Velipoja: This village is located in northern Albania on the Adriatic coast, where a beautiful shallow beach awaits you.
  • Vlore Bay: In Vlore, the third largest city in the country, you will find many idyllic bays that you should definitely visit if you are travelling in the region.
  • Shengjin Beach: The seaside resort in the north-west of the country attracts countless tourists from near and far every year.
  • Palasa Beach: Near Llogara you will find this family-friendly stretch of coast, which is not overcrowded but is particularly clean.
